Renault Twingo Legend Is a Cheap and Cheerful EV with Retro Style

Renault is going to release a new electric vehicle (EV) that looks a lot like the first-generation Twingo.

This type will soon be made by the French company, and they say it will cost less than €20,000.

We don’t know much about how this old Twingo works, but we love the way it looks.

In the 1990s, the first-generation Renault Twingo was one of the most recognizable French cars. Its unique style will be brought back as a cheap EV hatchback. Renault recently shared many of its plans for a new line of electric cars, including this idea of a new Twingo Legend. The company says that this model will be made and will be an affordable entry-level car that costs less than €20,000.

But we don’t know much about the retro-styled Twingo EV. It will, however, be built on one of Renault’s new bases made just for electric vehicles. More importantly, it looks cute thanks to design cues that clearly pay tribute to the original Twingo. For example, the headlights and taillights are shaped like half-circles, and the car has an upright two-door hatchback shape that should make the inside surprisingly roomy despite its small size.

Also, the Twingo won’t be the only retro Renault EV. The company also showed a Renault 5 EV design that was based on the hatchback that was sold in the U.S. as the Le Car in the 1970s and 1980s. The Twingo was released after Renault left the American market, so it never made it to our shores. However, it was a famous city car in Europe during its first generation, which ran from 1992 to 2007. They made two more generations after the first one, but they weren’t as popular as the first one.

Renault’s new line of cheap EVs will be up against cars from other European companies that also want to get into this new market segment whenever they come out. For example, Citroën’s ë-C3 will also start at less than €20,000 and will be available in 2025.
