The Super Sport’s owner thought it should look like the famous Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic, which she fell in love with 20 years ago.
The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ’57 One of One’ is the most beautiful Bugatti ever made.
The one-of-a-kind car is based on the famous Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic, which the owner fell in love with twenty years ago.
In honor of the original, the ’57 One of One’ has the same silver-tinted blue paint and polished vertical spikes in the front grille, among other things.
If you can afford a Bugatti, you’re already in a tax bracket that most people can’t even imagine. But the company’s Sur Mesure business lets customers spend even more money than most of us can imagine. The Sur Mesure section was used by a customer to make a Bugatti Super Sport that was unlike any we’d seen before.
A Very Unique Super Sport
The unique Super Sport is based on the famous Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic and is called the “57 One of One.” More specifically, No. 57374, which was sold to Victor Rothschild and went on to win “Best of Show” at the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It was then taken to Peter Mullin’s museum of cars.
“That’s where the customer of the ’57 One of One’ first saw a Type 57 SC Atlantic 20 years ago,” Bugatti says. She told Bugatti, “I remember the day like it was yesterday.” As a gift for her 70th birthday, her husband took her to Molsheim to customize her own Chiron Super Sport. While there, it was decided that her car would be dedicated to the Type 57 SC.
The lead designer for Sur Mesure, Jascha Straub, went to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao to see the original car in person to make sure they had the right color swatch. The customization department also worked with the engineers to make the grille’s vertical bars look like they did on the original car. As a nod to the Type 57, they chose a new grille with smooth vertical lines and a bigger center spine.
There are references to the Type 57 all over the “One of One.” The blue on the five-spoke Super Sport wheels is the same as the blue on the originals. A hand-drawn silhouette of the Atlantic is on the underside of the back wing, along with the words “57” and “One of One.” Hand-stitched in Lightning Blue, the Atlantic’s shape can be seen on the door panels and a center console with a unique inlay that says “57 One of One.” The headrests even have Rembrandt Bugatti’s famous image of a dancing elephant stitched into them.
Like the other Chiron Super Sports, the One of One has an incredibly powerful 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine that makes 1578 horsepower. The Chiron is said to be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds and have a top speed of over 260 mph.
In our tests, the Super Sport went from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds and from 0 to 200 mph in less than 15 seconds. It’s clear that even the Super Sports that aren’t one-offs are a lot of fun.
